the women artisans of Varanasi District were taken to BHU (Indian Institute of Technology) department of Varanasi for advocacy meeting by Pragati Path Foundation. The objective of this advocacy meeting was to find solutions to the problems arising in making and selling wooden craft. In the meeting, senior scientist of TIFAC (technology information forecasting and assessment council) Mr. Mukesh Mathur and E.D Pradeep Srivastava was present. In this program Asst. Professor Bhavana Verma presented the problems of artisans faced in making wooden crafts through PPT, in which problems like availability of raw material, cutting machine and designing problem, electricity problem, low profit on purchasing material through middleman etc. were explained. In the program project coordinator Usha Maurya also discussed the problem of packing in wooden craft products. discussed about making chemical free product and its costing. After this women artisan Durga asked how she can increase her profit by enhancing the quality of the product in this regard, some suggestions were presented by the craftsmen through which TIFAC, from its side, can help in developing the wooden craft of Varanasi, under which they talked about wooden banks through which dry wood can be provided to the artisans in rainy season.
A tasting Centre was discussed through which the colors, softness, texture, chemical presence of the product can be known through testing, and workshop or training should be provided regarding new products, designing, packaging of wooden craft, which also improves the skills of the artisans.
At the end of the program, Mukesh Mathur assured that work will definitely be done in this direction so that the lacquer ware art of Banaras can be promoted. After the program, Mukesh Mathur went to the residence of the women Artisans to see their lacquer art and obtained information about their work and machinery and also about the materials used in it and the problems related to their availability.
